Headshot Styling

Congratulations on making the decision to invest in yourself ! I’m super excited to work with you.

The goal here is to make a personal connection and capture your audience. Especially in a world where many services are offered online or remotely, without ever getting the opportunity to meet in person. Your headshot should be the ideal representation of YOU and YOUR BRAND.

Please read this page thoroughly to get the most from your session. I promise, it will pay off.

  • Get a good night’s sleep and drink plenty of water before your shoot.

  • Clothes should be neatly pressed and should look like new

  • Avoid bold prints and busy patterns

  • I recommend neutral tones which have a timeless appeal and will look great across a wide variety of branding assets.

  • However, color can also be an integral part of branding. We’ll discuss which is best for you before your shoot.

Styling is an integral part of your session. This cannot be overstated!  My specific styling recommendations will be entirely dependent on your brand, so the spectrum here can be pretty broad. The important thing is that you should dress the part.

Consider taking it up a notch. Maybe you don’t wear a suit every day, but if you have an audience of business professionals, a suit would be appropriate, or something relatable to a business professional. Likewise, if you generally dress more casual, consider elevating it a bit here. Maybe a sport coat and button-up for a guy, or nice jeans, silk cami, blazer, and heels for a gal. Make sense? If you need help with this, I’m here for you.

Express, Nordstrom, Banana Republic, and Aritizia are my top recommendations for timeless, yet on-trend looks from business-casual, to professional attire.

  • Style & Fit. Be sure your clothes fit. Try them on first to ensure you look and feel great.

  • Neutral Tones. I recommend neutral or tones for a classy, timeless look that will look good across a wide variety of branding assets.

  • Accessories. This really helps complete your look and add visual interest. Ladies, remember earrings, necklace, bracelet, and rings. Go for a timeless appeal vs something too overbearing or trendy. Gentleman, BE SURE and wear a belt and include a watch or bracelet. Your shoes and socks may show, especially if we’re doing a seated pose, so take that into consideration.

  • No wrinkles or text. Either of these can really kill a great professional photo.

  • Hands & Nails.  I often incorporate hands and they will definitely show. Guys, be sure your nails are clean and trimmed. Ladies, a light, neutral polish is perfect.

  • Bring several clothing options and any styling products you think you might need for touchup.

  • Gentleman. Please arrive clean shaven. If you have facial hair, be sure it is very tidy, and sharply defined with your neck and surrounding areas well shaven to ensure it’s stylish not scruffy.

  • Ladies.  I recommend full makeup and a classic, timeless look with natural tones, that accentuate your natural beauty. Please avoid overly bright colors and to much shimmer. Professional hair and make-up is not necessary and most of my clients do their own. That said, if hair and makeup aren’t your strong suit, this would be a great opportunity to pamper yourself, and will give you that extra boost of confidence.

  • And finally. Once you have your outfits picked out, please email or text them to me at least three days prior to your session. You can either try them on and take a selfie, or just lay them on the floor in groups. Whatever is easiest. This will give me an opportunity to make any final suggestions and also gives me an idea of which backdrops will look best, so that I can prepare my studio before you arrive.
